Scroll Painting- A fine mix of Story-telling and Art

Indian Folk art is an amalgamation of tradition, culture and ideologies and therein Scroll painting is one such art form that has its presence in every state of India. The different types of scroll paintings are an integral part of the visual arts and most of these are as much about tradition and culture as about skill, colour and craft. The paintings done with scrolls were used as tools for storytelling by wanderers of earlier times. Every village and area developed its own scroll paintings and these paintings carry with them rich history. To make our youngsters learn these regional traditions and cultures, students of classes III-V were asked to make paintings like Pattchitra of Odisha, Cheriyal Art of Telangana and Phad of Rajasthan. The students exhibited their creative side and came up with beautiful paintings. Students also learnt about the historical significance of the art form. 

The magnificent depiction, artistry and use of imagination has undoubtedly made scroll painting an integral part of our culture.
