Rakshabandhan

“Love and faith are the essence of the bond between a brother and a sister”

Rakshabandhan is an Indian festival where a sister ties an adorned thread called a ‘Rakhi’ on the wrist of her brother who in return gives her an eternal promise to take care of her and safe guard her from all evil. The brother also gives his sister a gift as a token of his love and affection for her.

This auspicious occasion commemorating the bond of love between a brother and his sister was celebrated at BBIS with full fervor in different classes:

FURS: The girls brought two rakhis each and the boys bought gifts for the girls. The girls applied tilak and performed aarti while tying rakhi on the wrists of the boys and the girls were delighted to get the gifts in return.

Class 1: The unique bond activity was organized where the children were asked to prepare rhymes or songs or speech for their brother or sister. Children also brought props and mementoes, cards, photographs, and any special gifts to express the valuable bond and the blessing called brother or sister.

Class 2: The girls brought 2 rakhis each and the boys brought small token of affection for the girls. The girls tied rakhi on the wrists of the boys and offered sweets which ran excitement in boys and the boys gave them a small gift as a token of affection in return which added to the delight of the girls. They also promised to take care of each other and understood the value of having a brother or a sister. The students were super excited and participated in the celebration with full enthusiasm. They had fun and enjoyed learning the way the festival of Rakshabandhan is celebrated.

A special assembly via cultural programme was also organised for the school where students of class II and III presented a group song followed by a speech which depicted the historical significance of the festival of love and protection- Raksha Bandhan. Children were brimming with confidence as they delivered their lines with conviction. After that poems were recited by the students. They learnt about the bond of love between brothers and sisters and fostered the feeling of sharing and caring. Their colourful attires and innocent smiles brightened the whole atmosphere.
